ICT4D Programme Coordinator at CTA (Technical Centre for Agricultural & Rural Cooperation ACP-EU)

Ken Lohento has been, for more than 15 years, managing numerous initiatives related to ICT policy and use for development in Benin, Senegal, France, and Netherlands. These include the Oridev association he founded in 1998 to pionnier the promotion of Internet use in Benin ; the Center for International ICT Policy for West and Central Africa (CIPACO) project that was hosted by the Panos Institute West Africa in Senegal ; the EuroAfrica-ICT project’s activities in West and Central Africa, the support to the African civil society participation in the World Summit on the Information Society and support to UNESCO's Community Multimedia Center project, ICT capacity building for media stakeholders.

Ken has joined the Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) in 2009, where he oversees funding and coordinates initiatives related to awareness raising and capacity building on the use of ICT in agricultural value chains, in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries (79 countries). Examples of these initiatives include: support to youth innovations and entrepreneurship in agriculture, organization of web 2.0 training for agricultural stakeholders, production of publications, management of online resources, support to the development of mobile and ICT applications in agriculture as well as e-agriculture strategies.

Ken collaborated in various capacity with organizations, including the International Organization of the French-speaking countries (OIF), the Association for Progressive Communication (APC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), etc. He was member of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of the Internet Governance Forum put in place by the UN (2006-2009). He authored several publications on ICT4D. He holds a master in Information sciences, and his thesis, supported by IICD, focused on ICT uses in agriculture and rural areas in West Africa.
