Dr. Barbara Hutchinson holds a several positions in the University of Arizona’s (UA) College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS): Managing Director of the International Arid Lands Consortium and Director of the Global Rangelands Initiative. She recently retired from the position as Director of the CALS Information and Technologies unit. Barbara is involved in developing local and international collaborative projects and programs. Areas of research interest include the open dissemination of information and educational resources to facilitate life-long learning and decision-making, and digital repositories. These interests have been most fully realized in the activities of the Rangelands Partnership through the development of Global Rangelands [http://globalrangelands.org] and Rangelands West [http://rangelandswest.org]. The Partnership involves 19 land-grant universities in the U.S. as well as international partners. Each land-grant university also maintains a state rangelands website, for example, Arizona Rangelands [http://globalrangelands/Arizona]. Barbara has served as President of the U.S. Agricultural Information Network (USAIN) and President of the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD). She has also provided technical assistance in information management in such countries as Afghanistan, Bahrain, Botswana, Malawi, Kenya, India, and Chile. Education: Master’s in Library Science and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration.
