I, Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Hossain is a Sustainable Agriculture Advisor and Chief Agricultural Coordinator in Friends In Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB), a national non-governmental organization of Bangladesh. Earlier I served more than 13 years as a scientist in Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI). In the last couple of years, I have been working on organic farming, sustainable agriculture, food security, climate change and livelihood improvement issues in both Bangladesh and Japan and more than 50 scientific papers have been published in journals and conference proceedings. I am pioneer of few organic technologies in Bangladesh i.e. integrated rice-duck farming system, vegetable production in sack/bag. I was also a research group member of developing uses of desalinated-dried Jellyfish for organic rice farming, direct-sowing rice culture with non-woven fabric mulch and zero energy cool chamber (storage). In September 30, 2011, I have been awarded the grand prize of ‘Organic Farming Innovation Award (OFIA)” from International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and Rural Development Administration (RDA) in 17th Organic World Congress in Gyeonggi Province, Republic of Korea. I was also awarded “Weed Science Award” from the Weed Science Society of Bangladesh in 2011 for weed science research and management and awarded the “Best Presenter Award” from 2nd International Conference on Environment Aspects of Bangladesh organized by Bangladesh Environment Network, BEN-Japan in Fukuoka, Japan in September 2011. I achieved Ph.D. in Agriculture from Ehime University, Japan and having attachment with Laboratory of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Ehime University as visiting scientist. Presently, I am serving as a Country Convener for Bangladesh in Intercontinental Network of Organic Farmers Organisations (INOFO), internal body of International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). I am also member of Advisory Group of Sustainable Organic Agriculture Action Network (SOAAN), a new best practice program of IFOAM and Charter Member of Technology Innovation Platform of IFOAM (TIPI). I am supporter of IFOAM and member of International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR). I am member of National Working Group for organic farming in Bangladesh of Hortex Foundation, Ministry of Agriculture that presently preparing the national policy and national standard on organic farming in Bangladesh. - Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Hossain is a Sustainable Agriculture Advisor in Friends In Village Development Bangladesh. Earlier he was scientist of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute. He is pioneer of integrated rice-duck farming and vegetable production in sack technology in Bangladesh and published over 50 research papers in international and national journals and conference proceedings. In 2011, he has been awarded ‘Organic Farming Innovation Award (OFIA)” from International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) in 17th Organic World Congress held in South Korea. Dr. Tanveer holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture from Ehime University, Japan and recently elected as Board Member of IFOAM-Asia.
