Ashutosh Sarker is the Coordinator and Food Legume Breeder at the ICARDA South Asia & China Regional Program (SACRP), New Delhi, India. He served as a Food legume Breeder at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute before joining ICARDA in 1996 as a Lentil Breeder. Till 2008, he headed the Food Legume team at ICARDA HQ. During the last three years, he established SACRP & strengthened food legume research for short-season environments in South Asia. In his 32 years of research experience on food legumes, esp. lentil, he published over 180 research articles as referred journals, book chapters, Symposia proceedings, conference abstracts, popular articles,etc. He worked with over 40 national programs and advanced research institutions in lentil research, contributing to the release of 62 lentil/blackgram/grasspea var. globally. Discovery of major genes for earliness, wilt & rust resistance, drought & cold tolerance, and early maturity are major achievements in his research career.
