Senior Scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) based in Bogor, Indonesia. Leader of a Research Domain at CIFOR on managing the impacts of globalized trade and investment on forest and forest communities. Coordinator of Component 5 “Impacts of Trade and Investment on forest and people” of the CGIAR Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry. He is conducting research on the trends, causes and implications of globalized trade and investment on forest conservation, economic development and people’s livelihoods, with emphasis on the role of emerging economies, food and biofuel development, and the interactions between domestic timber markets and timber trade. He is also interested on the emerging public policy and social responses embracing both state and non-state actors aimed at managing the impacts and trade-offs associated with trade and investment, and business and policy models to make progress towards more sustainable and equitable development.
