The first version of the GFAR Charter was approved by the GFAR Steering Committee (GFAR-SC) in October 1998. In May 2000, a GFAR External Review was carried out and among the outputs of this review was draft GFAR Charter which was then presented to and approved by the GFAR Steering Committee on 28 October 2000. Summary of Sub-Saharan Africa Panel. Week 1

The Objectives of Week 1 were to identify: 1) the changes in poverty: its causes, nature and dynamics, 2) new constraints on productivity in agriculture, forests, and fisheries, and 3) the new threats to sustainability of agro-ecosystems and their natural resource context. Our goal is to have a prioritized list of challenges within the CGIAR mandate and comparative advantage. These need not be ones that the CGIAR is currently addressing.
