AgriVIVO
A few months ago GFAR, in collaboration with Cornell University and FAO, launched AgriVIVO, a search portal built to facilitate the discovery of expertise and improve connections between all actors in the agricultural field, bridging across separately hosted directories and online communities.

To date, AgriVIVO allows visitors to search and browse information on 526 experts, 4,474 organizations and 150 events. So far, these data have been aggregated from the following providers: YPARD (the community with the highest number of profiles shared with AgriVIVO: 312 people), AIMS, e-agriculture, CIARD, CIARD RING, EGFAR, IAALD.

We recently added a new data provider: CABI has contributed a database of 66 experts, which broadens the range of expertise represented in AgriVIVO. CABI is a very well known not-for-profit international organization that improves people’s lives by providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment. The database of experts that they shared with AgriVIVO comprises mostly experts in plant protection, crop management, entomology, molecular biology and information science.

Furthermore, in the last two months we have strengthened our collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), both of which are implementing VIVO platforms for managing their staff and experts databases. Exchange of data between AgriVIVO and these two big data providers is foreseen in the next year.

We invite all organizations and communities that have data on experts or institutions to contribute these data to AgriVIVO to improve collaboration across institutions, countries and disciplines.

You can contact us at agrivivo@gmail.com for devising the best procedure to share your data.

We also remind experts who use the following platforms: YPARD, AIMS, EGFAR and IAALD that they can created / edit their profile in these platforms and tick the “Permission to include this profile in AgriVIVO” checkbox in order to be included in the portal. We hope that other platforms will offer this option soon.
