Scale Up! is a synthesis of the highlights of discussions of the 38 participants
from some 25 institutions who attended the Workshop on Scaling Up Sustainable
Agriculture (SA) Initiatives held 22-23 October 1999 at the World Bank. The Workshop
was organized by the NGO Committee of the Consultative Group on International
Agricultural Research (CGIAR) with support from the Global Forum on Agricultural
Research (GFAR) with the general assumption that there are successful local level SA

The aim of the present proposal addressed is to facilitate the participation of Southern organizations in the InterDev-NRM information service through: > the organization of a number of training sessions in Africa, Asia and Latin America on the use of
the InterDev software, > the effective participation of Southern organizations in the experimental phase of InterDev (definition of norms and procedures, choice of the classification system, etc.) and inputting a first set of data into the system.

¿The aim of the present dissemination plan is to review the options for the extension of the service
once the experimental phase funded by the EC is over. Extension will be considered as an
increasing range of issues being covered by the service, whether within or outside the three
themes that are taken into consideration in the experimental phase. Extension will also be
considered as an increasing number of organisations being involved in the exchange network,
specially from the South. Finally, the dissemination plan will consider the question of the

of the InterDev project describes experiences in the
field of urban agriculture and integrated urban planning.
In view of the multidisciplinary character of
much of the information available it is difficult to limit
a focus to any sub-field in particular. The starting
point is the description of experiences or the publication
of information that is needed to support the
evidence given by the description of the experiences.

¿InterDev Food-Processing defines itself as a network
of partners competent in food processing
and aiming to gather, format and disseminate useful
and operational information in order to meet the
needs of businesses which process agricultural raw
materials.¿

InterDev Agroecological Farming Systems defines
itself as a network of partners aiming to gather,
format and disseminate useful and operational information
in order to meet the needs for information
of practitioners in natural resources management
and agricultural development. This working group's field is described by the term
"Agroecological Farming Systems". This term covers the concepts of "agroecology" and "farming systems".

InterDev-NRM will facilitate international exchanges of experiences notably among the
numerous local organisations that are in charge of providing technical and methodological
support to natural resources management. It has been built as a co-operative information
service with a common shared database filled by various organisations (NGOs, research
institutes,¿) in order to share their practical experiences, lessons learned, success stories and
failures on NRM and agricultural development. The information may have a internal, network

The overall objective of the project is to develop, test
and evaluate a fully co-operative information service
in the field of Natural (environmental) Resource
Management and to devise an agreed set of operating
criteria which will ensure that the system is effective,
