GFAR held its Third Triennial Conference from 8 to 11 November 2006 in New Delhi (India) with the theme "Reorienting Agricultural Research to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)"

GFAR 2006 Conference focused on the contributions of ARD to the MDGs. The MDGs constitute an integral part of the Millennium Declaration adopted by the United Nations in September 2000 and commit the international community to an expanded vision of development; one that vigorously promotes human development as the key to sustain social and economic progress in all countries, and recognizes the importance of creating a global partnership for development. The goals, all eight of them, have been commonly accepted as a framework for measuring development progress, and currently constitute the focus of development efforts.
