This position is to lead the development and implementation of the CGIAR System Organization’s communications strategy and outreach activities to enhance the profile of the CGIAR brand and portfolio of investment opportunities among donors, potential investors, partners, the public and other target audiences.

Specific duties for this position include:

  • Raise the profile and visibility of the CGIAR brand and portfolio of investment opportunities through the production and distribution of web and media content, and print and digital publications
  • Develop targeted communications products, promotional materials and activities to raise awareness of CGIAR, the benefits of investing in agricultural research for development, and CGIAR’s value proposition
  • Plan and coordinate outreach activities of the CGIAR System Organization
  • Manage the CGIAR website and be a thought leader on its optimal structuring and format
  • Provide strategic and timely advice on high profile or sensitive internal or external communication issues, and develop and implement a crisis communications plan for the CGIAR System Organization
  • Network with key stakeholders, including current and potential investors, and identify, prioritize and respond to their information needs
  • Identify relevant high level events and organize CGIAR’s engagement in them from a communications perspective
  • Support the organization of the Communications Community of Practice, provide timely updates to the Heads of Communications of Centers, Research Programs and Platforms, and facilitate dialogue and information sharing
  • Monitor and analyze current events, public media opinions, and trends in the international development arena that are relevant to CGIAR’s work, synthesize diverse information from varied sources, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend strategic responses
  • Manage the System Management Office’s communications budget and supervise communications staff and external consultants as appropriate
